Scientific Mission at the Heart of the West Congolian Belt – 2026
As part of his Master’s (DEA) research at the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN) and the Royal Museum for Central Africa (MRAC), Trésor HUBERT KAWAYA is currently taking part in a geological field mission in the Republic of the Congo focused on the study of geological units equivalent to those of the Tshela region (Kongo Central, DRC) that he is investigating.
This mission is part of the GeoRes4Dev project (Belgian DGD development cooperation program), which supports his Master’s research under the supervision of his promoter, Camille François (MRAC).
The fieldwork is being carried out in close collaboration with Marien Ngouabi University as part of Hevecel Mountou’s PhD research, with the support of Prof. Florent Boudzoumou and Dr. Vicky Bouenitela.
Beyond the scientific work, this mission highlights the dynamics of regional academic cooperation and the importance of cross-border correlations for better understanding the geodynamic evolution of the basin and the metallogenic potential of the West Congolian Belt.
We are pleased to share a few field images that reflect this rewarding scientific and human adventure.
